Yoga Retreat in Goa

Iyengar Yoga Retreat with Victoria Bridges

From 8 til 15 Dec 2019

Mindful attention to the postures

Victoria is excited to share her passion for yoga on this Iyengar Yoga Retreat, which is intended to support mental wellbeing and is open to all levels and abilities.  She will be offering two yoga classes a day and the two vegetarian meals, from locally sourced produce, are also included in the price.

Between classes there are multiple ways to spend your time, from sipping chai by the natural pool or relaxing on the vast, sandy beach, to excursions visiting spice farms, waterfalls and markets, or indulging in one of the many massage therapies on offer at Ashiyana's beautiful spa. You can also enjoy beach activities such as SUP or surfing, and boat trips to nearby villages.

During this retreat you will work in the mornings on the classical asanas, building from standings through to forward bends and twists towards the more complex back arches at the end of the week. In the afternoons, you will explore the recuperative poses and pranayama.

Victoria's aim is to allow each student to work within his or her capacity. She teaches with compassion for where each person is right now. With the use of props, she will guide the student to work at his or her own pace, exploring their own unique bodily and mental state. Her style is warm and encouraging, her instructions clear. Her training emphasises safety and gradual progress.

Through mindful attention to the postures, the awareness turns inwards and the chattering mind quietens. You will find that this absorption helps to refresh you and free you from your daily concerns. Iyengar yoga works on all systems of the body. It has the capacity to help you feel stronger and more flexible, more grounded and whole.

On this retreat she will also refer to the philosophical basis of the practice. With reference to the Yoga sutras of Patanjali, together you will explore the ethical observances (the Yamas and Niyamas), the increasingly subtle layers of the practice (the Koshas) and the obstacles to our learning (the Kleshas) both on and off the mat.

Victoria is fascinated by the way in which yoga asanas and pranayama help increase one’s mental peace and physical health. She is grateful to her teachers,  humbled by her students and excited by the never-ending learning. She would love you to join her in her journey of discovery.

Young people over the age of 15 are welcome, as are partners and family members. Unfortunately pregnant women cannot be accommodated on this retreat.
